Screeching to a halt…for a weddin’!01.24.11

My dear friend and invitation designer K. Chung emailed me this article and it was definitely blog-worthy. I’m currently in Fla having had the best weekend ever at a friend’s wedding! I sometimes forget besides the mosquitoes, slow-paced lifestyle, and large retirement population South Florida can still think outside of the box. Especially for new Mrs. Nina Johnson.

When choosing a location for her wedding ceremony and reception she set her eyes on a parking garage. HA-HA…That’s what her guests thought of when she mentioned it to them AND included a sketch of the parking garage on her invitations. But boy were they awe-struck when they arrived and saw that the loft-like structure lit up in all it’s beautiful architectural glory complete with a 360-degree view of South Florida!

No exterior walls!

I applaud this bride for being so creative. She didn’t stick to what could have been safe. Remember, any space can be transformed with some work.

A light from above01.07.11

One of my favorite details at any weddings are lighting. Lighting used in the most useful and charming ways. Whether you want to use thousands of small candles (er, make sure you check with your venue for this fire hazard approval) or have vintage chandeliers lined above a beautifully set table, or lanterns to light a romantic pathway to a gracious garden. Use it as you may, but take it to the next level.

My friends know I’m all for a flea market run and will search hell and high water for a sweet vintage deal…and I’m not lying! Don’t come shopping with me unless you’re prepared to walk {for hours}.

If you’re having a a traditional, yet an ethereal garden wedding try finding some nice glass chandeliers.

If you’re opting for a courtyard wedding, hang some vintage metal lanterns, that are strung with rope.

I love how they used different light bulbs and round lanterns, all hung by thin rope.

Don’t underestimate your space, I love how this is creating the most intimate dinner
I lourve, I lourve (word my friends and I use with each other!)

Whatever you decide, take it to the next level and make a statement (even if you’re shy). It’s your wedding!

I LOVE COLOR!01.06.11

Oh, I can’t wait until I get to plan and coordinate an Indian/Indian-inspired wedding. The colors used, the multiple days of events, the beautiful dress/sari changes, and elephants! All so beautiful and amazing!

Events like this usually involve lots of guests. We’re talking up to the thousands! Tables are covered with gorgeous silk linens and carnations and other strong-colored flowers are strung to create a dramatic effect!

Check out the photos below to view two gorgeous brides and their grooms.
This traditional {temporary} henna tattoo is called, Mehndi. This is done on the bride’s hands and feet during the multiple festivities. Gorgeous, I know!
Couple have been known to match the embroidery on their saris to their wedding invite

I’m loving this gorgeous sari and the grooms matching “Jodhpuri” suit.

I swoon!

Tuesday’s advice- First Dance01.04.11

How many of you bride and grooms are thinking about taking dance lessons for your first dance at the wedding? Nervous? Excited? Think you have 2 left feet?
I think we all have dancing feet, it’s all in how you feel, which should be confident (especially on your wedding day!) Seriously! If you don’t think about being nervous, I guarantee you’ll dance the best dance of your life.
I’m impartial to taking dance lessons to be honest. If the thought of dancing in front of a hundred people makes you nervous, the only way to break those jitters is to have fun and let loose. To learn to one, two, step by a teacher is only going to make you nervous having to focus on getting the steps right and thus begins the vicious cycle.
My word of advice when thinking about taking dance lessons to loosen you up or presenting a dance you and your soon-to-be have planned on debuting…take a fun dance class like African Dance, jazz, Hip-Hop, or even Zumba just to get your body moving and comfortable!
I hear too many stories of couples nervous about actually taking dance lessons. It’s your wedding day, have fun, scrub the dance floor!
Check out Your Neighborhood Studio in Culver City for awesome dance classes and schedules

Happy New Year!01.03.11

It’s a new New Year which can only mean one thing…a fresh new 12 months to make memories and make all that you wanted to do come to reality!
Instead of resolutions I gave myself goals. Attainable of course with quite some effort. If I don’t achieve them, I can only blame myself but you know what…I’m going to make sure I don’t blame myself unless there’s a really good reason the goal can’t be obtained. Just to name a few:
1. My website is yes, going through a facelift!
2. Run full marathon #2
3. Get some rest and put away the computer, blackberry, and tech pad while doing so
4. Continue to educate myself about the bridal insustry (remember I’m a rookie)
5. Bring my dinner parties back!
I didn’t want to overwhelm myself (and you) with an extensive list, but I also made sure to reflect back on 2010 (I know, I know…I’m late):
1. I started my own business
2. Ran my first full marathon
3. Went to Hawaii (for the 1st time) where I ran my first full marathon
4. Coordinated a wedding that was featured in Junebug Weddings!
5. I’m surprised I didn’t try Ethiopian food sooner! Thanks A!
I’m so excited about this year! It’s only up to us to make it fun,  charming, sweet, and wonderful. So take the 2011 reins and keep on keepin’ on!
